Overall User Rating (4.5 Out of 5 based on 622 ratings)
Overall: There have been numerous reviews about this device and mine doesn't reveal any new groundbreaking facts. But just in case this might prove useful for someone with same requirements from tab as mine, I will consider it worth the time.
I will try to keep it short and sweet.
My requirements and expectations prior to buying this gadget:
1- I am an avid reader; can't sleep without reading.
2- I am frequent traveller. So had good battery life and light weight as concerns.
3- Bigger screen. Videos, comic, blogs all were the factors.
4- Free stuff. I come from Java and android culture, so isn't this obvious.
5- Something that was a change from my android devices.
6- occasional games.
And did iPad sufficed? Here is how it's faring out for me so far:
1- it's great e-reader. If you consider reading graphic novels or comics apart from usual ePub, PDF or eMobi, then it's easy to rank it as one of the best. Screen quality is amazing and I just love watching my batman collection ranked up neatly on shelves. I had a concern about third party books support since I have this huge collection purchased externally. But with kindle, iBooks, blue fire reader, cloud readers, you got best ebook reading apps. For third party comics too there are more than fair share of decent apps available.
2- With my last tab being Acer A100, the difference in battery life seems simply huge to me. I hate fanisim of any kind but Android devices have a lot of catching up to do here. With frequent usage, iPad can last more than 10 hours. I watched three movies of 2 hours each and still had about 30 percent battery left.
iPad however is not light device. Just because they attached suffix 'Air' to it, doesn't improve the things. But now that I am using it, it's not much of a concern. You need stronger wrists babes and dudes for holding 10 inch screen.
3- Screen is bigger and looks amazing. I will not go into tech specifications but aesthetically pleasing experience made it my day on iPad purchase. There are plenty of video players with support for virtually every extension and third party videos on the market. iPad custom apps are must for buyers and are rocking.
4- Free apps- there is a great free option available for all my requirements on the market. I haven't spend a single penny so far and all the great stuff is still in my possession. Though I would have loved to have some NatGeo free goodies too.
5- Its iOS. Its a change from Android. End of the story.
6- Tons available. If you are willing to spend some bucks, holla, you got BioShock, Limbo, Infinity Blade, etc etc etc.
Having raved about good things, I still do feel that Apple products are over expensive. I haven't used Samsung high end tabs but within this cost, they offer better specs. Though build quality and optimization of those tabs is subpar I believe.
Another thing is that market experience for Android is way better than Apple iTunes. GooglePlay is really getting ahead in the game and they will go for the kill if trend continues. Also, iTunes acts sluggish on my decently powered laptop.
Ther you go boys and girls. iPad is great but nothing that's irreplaceable at cost of one or other feature at much lower budget.
