Slim, sleek, stylish netbook

Overall: I wanted a lightweight laptop for my development, web-browsing and general multimedia use. I have a desktop, Dell Latitude and MacBook Pro. But I wanted something cheap and small within a budget of 20k with very less weight and Mac-like behaviour and response for booting and closing the lid.
Given the progress Intel has made with 22 nm design with Ivy-Bridge and the recent Bay-Trail line of processors, I was curious about the Celeron processor on this laptop. It is a 3rd gen 17 w Ivy-Bridge 1007u processor with dual cores. It is far better than any Atom/ARM processor. It is in the league of cheap desktop-class processors.
Windows 8.1 Experience Index: 5.9
I installed Win 8.1 Pro and am using the following different softwares -
1. Office 2013 + Visio 2013 + Project 2013
2. Visual Studio 2013
4. IntelliJ IDEA 13
5. Python + Java + Ruby programming/framework environments
As you can see I'm using it as a full-fledged turbo development machine with heavyweight tools.
I was worried about the 2 GB RAM and 5200 rpm drive. But Win 8.1 runs smooth as butter and I'm so pleasantly surprised! Its a joy to use this laptop with its small size and light weight along with fast boot up time and instant-on behaviour on opening the lid. I can conveniently close the lid and open it, to reach my workspace in less than 5 secs! Its that good and convenient. <br>
The screen is very nice with 1366x768 resolution. No complaints. Text is clear. During programming I have to stare at the screen for long durations, but no fatigue or any kind of viewing issue so far. Brightness, contrast and sharpness are awesom. I can read PDF files for extended duration conveniently.
Speakers are very nice. Webcam is OK, it does it job in good lighting.
Touchpad is huge for the size and feels good. But is not as responsive as I would like it to be. I can learn to live with that.
Keyboard is fantastic!
There are no heating issues, very nominal heating under medium load. Very comfortable to use on lap.
Battery life comes to 2:30 hours for me under heavy usage with medium to high brightness. This could have been better. But given the weight and price, I can understand why they gave a small battery pack. But the charger is super cool and super mini, like a mobile charger! Well, not quite but only slightly bigger. And it charges super fast. So overall, it balances out in power management.
USB 3 is a wonderful addition for transferring files super fast.
HDMI output is convenient. Just plug and play on any HDMI screen. Only 720p output, no 1080p!
Bluetooth 4 and WiFi seal the wireless deal.
I'm dual booting to Xubuntu and it is a joy to enjoy this machine in Linux too! :)
Wifi and Bluetooth are Ralink, in case your OS doesn't recognizes the drivers.
Moore's law has prevailed and here we have the cheapest proof of that.
Overall, for 17k this is a killer deal! I have rediscovered the joy of computing thanks to this little wonder! Grab it before WS Retail runs out of it. You'll be surprised at its abilities.
Flipkart delivery was fast and reliable. I paid in EMI scheme. They could have packed it in a better way as the big buggle packing was done only on 3 sides, exposing the 4th side of the laptop box. Apart from that the unit was fresh and sealed.
Its so light and convenient to carry and use!
But beware, you can't upgrade a thing on this laptop. Its all soldered and final! I have read about people installing SSD, but I'm skeptical. RAM for sure is sealed. So this is the configuration you will have to live with. Which I'm perfectly OK with.
