It is known that Nokia keeps good relations with other companies as well as its direct competitors, but in this case it has taken legal action considering it to be a last weapon. Moreover, it is also seen that the Finnish giant settles up for royalty payments even after legal action is taken by it. However, this time it is surprising that it is pursuing to get RIM phones banned in the USA, UK and Canada on patent dispute.

As of now Nokia gets royalty fees from forty companies. Even Apple pays Nokia to use its patented technologies.

In last 10 years Nokia has spent over $40 billion to create patent portfolio of about 30,000 patents. All of them are very important for wireless phones and tablets. Most of those patented are important to build tools like wireless tablets and phones.

According to Computerworld, Nokia is seeking sales ban of BlackBerry devices in the US until any royalty agreement is reached with RIM.

As per the ruling, RIM is to pay Nokia a royalty fee for every phone it sells. However, RIM has declined to comment and has released a statement as below:

"Research In Motion has worked hard to develop its leading-edge BlackBerry technology and has built an industry-leading intellectual property portfolio of its own. RIM will respond to Nokia’s petitions in due course."
