2 Million LG Optimus One handsets sold worldwide!

LG Optimus One is on a record-breaking spree. Within 40 days of launch it crossed 1 million sales. Now within 20 days of crossing 1 million sales, it has sold another million units! Now it has sold 2 million handsets worldwide within 2 months. No wonder LG is planning to release gingerbread version as soon as Google releases the compatibility document!

Now LG Mobiles is eyeing the 10 million mark and which is very much possible with the kind of momentum they have. This momentum is however have been made possible largely by US Carriers. The major wireless carriers in US such as Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, Metro PCS and US Cellular started offering LG Optimus One handsets as part of the bundle. Every carrier is offering variants. Verizon offers LG Vortex, Sprint offers LG Optimus S, T-Mobile offers LG Optimus T, Metro PCS offers LG Optimus M, US Cellular offers LG Optimus U. AT&T is soon planning to launch a variant. When you look at the split of sales across geography, North america has contributed 1.3 million, south korea 450,000, Europe 200,000 and Asia 50,000 (Still to gather traction in India?)

In UK, Kelly brook - a popular british model - is promoting the handset. In UK the handset is available through T-Mobile and Orange.

LG Optimus one has even figured in the best smartphones 2010 list compiled by CNET. LG has received help from unexpected quarters to promote their handset. "The Smurfs"..This 5 inch tall blue cartoon characters have approved the handset! So LG has released a "Smurf" version of Optimus one..

LG Optimus one costs Rs. 12,799 in India and comes with 2GB memory card.
