Intel is all set to expand its range of smartphone offerings, with the launch of a series of dual core smartphones being launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 which will be held in Barcelona, Spain.  The company made its launch in this segment with the Lava Xolo X900.

The company is targeting emerging markets with some new releases made exclusively for these markets. The company is using this strategy to compete with smartphones built with ARM based chips. Intel has already taken its first step in the execution of this strategy with the launch of the Yolo, which bears the tag of being Africa’s first Intel Inside smartphone.

The device was fully made in Africa in collaboration with the Kenyan company Safaricom and was launched on 24th January this year. Intel is likely to have Asia on its mind as a key market as low end smartphones are big sellers in this region.

The company’s press release stated that, "Specifically, Intel will showcase its latest smartphone technologies and devices running on the Android platform, including a new dual core, dual graphics platform, as well as OEM- and service provider-supported devices based on the company's new Intel Atom Z2420 platform targeted at emerging markets"

The dual core chipset the company is referring to must probably be the Z2580 dual-core Atom processor which have been used by lenovo for their smartphone K900, that was showcased at the CES 2013. This chipset was actually showcased at the MWC, 2012 and its key feature is that it provides 4G LTE connectivity, a must for any chipset in the market.
