2015 was a truly remarkable year by virtue of the sheer number of new brands that entered the Indian smartphone market. Some faded away, while other stuck around. Here are the best debuts of the year.
Best Debut of the Year
And the award goes to...
India saw a record number of new brands entering the market this year, and predictably, most of them were Chinese. Some made grand entries but fizzled out, while a few others cemented their place in the Indian smartphone market. Let’s take a look at the best debuts of the year.
US-based smartphone manufacturer InFocus made its Indian debut in March with the entry-level M2 smartphone. Since then, the company has released a steady stream of devices, including the M810 and M812 flagships. The value-for-money smartphones and Android updates that InFocus is providing grant the company a firm spot in this list.
Chinese brand Coolpad made a notable debut when it launched the affordable Dazen 1 and Dazen X7 smartphones. The company followed suit with the Note 3, which has become a very popular phablet in the sub-Rs 10,000 price band.
Micromax’s sub-brand YU commenced sales of its CyanogenMod running smartphones early this year, and has since released some compelling options like the Yureka, Yuphoria and Yunique. With its recently launched flagship Yutopia, it looks like YU is well on its way to becoming an established brand.
Chinese brand MEIZU might not have achieved Xiaomi’s success in India, but it still caught our attention with a slew of affordably-priced devices. From the m2 note phablet to the MX5 flagship to the m2 entry-level smartphone, the company seems to have covered all its bases.
QiKU was a late entry into the Indian smartphone market this year, but still managed to impress us with the Q Terra. The powerful hardware, intelligent software and impressive performance made for an interesting debut for this Chinese brand.
YU. The brand has emerged as a strong contender in the Indian smartphone space, and looks set to take the market by storm next year. Coming in at second place is QiKU, which managed to pleasantly surprise us with the Q Terra. We can't wait to see what this dark horse has in store for the future.
