Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has assigned the task of manufacturing new version of Aakash tablet to Datawind. It would be more appropriate to call it as the Aakash 2. Aakash 2 will take care of all the loopholes in its earlier version. You will see a pretty comprehensive tablet in the form of Aakash 2. As per the recent reports, Ministry of Human Resource and Development (HRD) is willing to distribute the Aakash 2 to 20,000 students in 416 universities. The price tag of aakash 2 will be kept at $21 or Rs 1,132. Datawind is also planning to sell the tablet in the retail market. Aakash 2 will come in the retail market under the brand name Ubislate. It will be available at somewhat between Rs 3,499 and Rs 4,299.
Most of the specs of this tablet will remain same as its earlier version. Aakash 2 features a 7.0 inch display with high resolution graphics. With 256 MB RAM and 4 GB internal storage (along with an external SD memory card slot), this tablet will be compatible to work under all the conditions. Aakash 2 will be released in two variants. The first one to come with the Wi-fi support and the second one to come with SIM card slot. The tablet will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and it may be upgraded to higher Android version if everything remains perfect. Datawind will work with a target to produce 100,000 units in the next six months. These tablets will be sent to IIT Mumbai for testing.
