Android’s next version to be named ‘Ice Cream’

|October 17 2010 |Android Phones, Mobile OS

The (to be) world’s most popular mobile OS ‘Android’ follows a unique trend in terms of its names. All its versions are always named after a dessert, in an alphabetical order. It started from C and as per the trend Android 4.0 should be named after a dessert starting from I.

Have a look at all the versions and its names:-

  • Cupcake (Android 1.5 in May 2009)

  • Donut (Android 1.6 in Sept. 2009)

  • Eclair (Android 2.1 in Oct. 2009)

  • Froyo, short for frozen yogurt (Android 2.2 in May 2010)

  • Gingerbread (Android 3.0 - to be released)

  • Honeycomb (Android 3.5 - to be released)

  • Ice Cream (Android 4.0 - Just unveiled)

So the news is that Android’s next version after Honeycomb will be called Ice Cream. President of ARM, Tudor Brown made a leaked announcement that the next version of Android OS after Gingerbread (3.0) and Honeycomb (3.5) will be Ice Cream (4.0). Gingerbread is expected to be released before the end of the year and Honeycomb in early 2011. It is expected to release in the middle of next year.

Obviously no words yet on details or upgrades of Ice Cream.
