Apple cuts iPad Mini Shipment for Second Quarter of 2013

|April 1 2013 |Tablets

American tech giant Apple has cut down shipment of the iPad Mini tablet for the second quarter of 2013 barely after a few months of its release.

Rumors suggest that the company will cut down shipments by 10 to 12 million iPad Mini devices in this period which would lead to a fall of 20% in April.

The company had increased the iPad Mini shipment to 55 million units earlier, last month, so we can only speculate up on reasons for this sudden decision for cutdown.

The reason for this sudden decision to cut down on supplies is suggested to be the launch of the next generation of the iPad Mini, which is also expected to release in third quarter of 2013. There is also a suggestion that the existing iPad Mini might be re-released with some upgradations.

Another reason suggested would be the rise in competition in the 7-inch tablet market, especially from Android operating system based devices.

According to a market research study, Apple’s three flagship devices for the year, iPad 3, iPad Mini and the iPhone 5 have a combined market share of 20% in the mobile devices market.

The iPad Mini comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB internal memory versions and Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi with cellular connectivity option version. Apart from this, the device has a 7.85 inches LED-backlit IPS LCD Capacitive touchscreen display with 1024x768 pixels resolution. It has a 1GHz dual core processor with 512MB of RAM. The device has a 5MP rear camera and a 1.2 MP front facing camera. Also, it has LTE connectivity option, and runs on a 4490 mAh battery.

The news is yet to be confirmed by Apple, but reading the market trends, we hope there is a better iPad Mini coming to takeover the existing one.
