Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 has a competitor now. As reported earlier, Asus has launched its latest tablet, the Asus Fonepad in India for a price of Rs 15999. The device, which was first unveiled at MWC, is a Intel powered tablet with calling facility.
Asus Fonepad sports a 7 inch, 1280x800 px, IPS HD display running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board. This is the first Asus tablet to be powered by an Intel processor. It features 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2420 chipset supported by PowerVR GC540 GPU and 1GB of RAM. Its 1.2 MP front camera which can be used for video calling also has the capability to shoot 720p videos. The device packs a 3MP rear camera as well.
Asus Fonepad features 8GB of internal storage, expandable by 32GB via MicroSD card. This 10.4mm thick device weighs merely 340 grams. On the connectivity front, Asus Fonepad includes SIM slot with voice calling, 3G capabilities, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB etc. The device has been fueled by 4270mAH battery which provides a running time of 9 hours as per the company claims.
Asus Fonepad is the second direct offering from the company in India after Memo Pad which features a bit downgraded resolution running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean powered by 1Ghz processor coupled with 1GB of ram. Other features of MemoPad include 1MP front camera, 8GB internal memory, Wi-Fi, USB etc.
Asus is also selling Nexus 7 in a co-branding with Google in India. It would be interesting to see how Fonepad withstands the competition.
