Battle of Projector Mobiles

Spice Popkorn M-9000 created a buzz around Projector phones through their ICC World Cup Commercials and grabbed attention of all of us! Almost it instantly captured the imagination of many of us. The first utility that comes to our mind when we think of project mobiles is Projecting the movies on to the wall. But the projector can be handy with videos, games, internet and with Corporate Presentations too! Fun aside, Spice Mobiles successfully penetrated in to the Projector phones market in India with very innovative ad-campaigning.

Besides Spice Popkorn, there are other projector mobiles available in the market. When it comes to Projector Mobiles, Techberry was the pioneer and the first brand to introduce the concept to Indians in the form of Techberry ST 200, followed by ST 100. Shortly afterwards, Computer peripheral major Intex launched their projector mobile phone called Intex IN-8810. And not to forgot the brilliant Samsung Galaxy Beam I8520 from the South Korean mobile giant Samsung mobiles. Also there are rumors that G Five would be launching a projector mobile called G5 Projector phone, though it is not confirmed yet!

Techberry ST200 is a Bar phone weighing 160gm. It’s dimensions are 111.8MM x 56.8MM x 18.8MM. It has 3.5” QVGA Full touch TFT screen. There are all other functions which a multimedia phone should have; like Bluetooth, USB, GPRS, WiFi, 2MP camera, Micro SD card support (Dual 8GB+ 8GB), 64 MB internal memory, Audio Video support. But there’s no 3G. This phone runs on Basic JAVA operating system with support to .jar external apps (like opera mini and all) and games even motion sense games are supported by this gadget.

Intex IN-8810 V.Show
Intex IN-8810 V.Show is also a Bar phone weighing 160gm. It’s dimensions are 111.8MM x 56.8MM x 18.8MM. It has 3.2” QVGA Full touch TFT screen. There are all other functions which a multimedia phone should have; like Bluetooth, USB, GPRS, WiFi, 2MP camera, Micro SD card support (Dual 8GB+ 8GB), 64 MB internal memory, Audio Video support. But there’s no 3G. This phone runs on Basic JAVA operating system with support to .jar external apps. Don’t be surprised if you find lot of similarities between Intex IN-8810 V Show and Techberry handset. Both of them are Chinese handsets rebranded and sold in India!

Final Verdict
After looking at all the models it seems like Samsung Beam excels with its host of features. It has all the elements that are expected in a business phone or any multimedia entertainment phone. Samsung Beam comes with Android OS, 8 MP Camera, 3G with Video Calling, Bluetooth 3 and most importantly an high quality projector. But one look at the price it will make your jaws drop. Priced at Rs.44,720, this out of the reach for many of us. If you can afford such high amounts, then surely it’s a win-win phone for all business and entertainment needs.

Among the remaining contenders, Spice Popkorn is impressive. Intex and Techberry still needs to improve there products and they even look like clones. Popkorn comes with business features like document viewer, presentation viewer and other features such as dual sim, analog TV, and a tripod and a laser pointer. In addition, Spice Popkorn also has support for JAVA and external apps. Comes with preloaded apps like Naukri, Wapedia, Opera mini browser, Nimbuzz, Zenga TV, Snaptu etc,. All these at just Rs. 6,000. Spice Popkorn clearly emerges as a winner with list of features and an unbelievable price point.
