BBM 7 Beta comes with voice calling over Wi-Fi

November 14 2012 By Ashwini Sah|Blackberry

Research in Motion, the company behind Blackberry, has announced the launch of BBM 7 Beta version. It’s a major upgrade over the earlier versions featuring free voice calling capabilities to any BBM user in the world. The app will display the users available for voice chat and will allow to make a voice call from within the app itself.

Note that as of now Blackberry Messenger (BBM in short) allows to chat users over the IM for free of cost. Though you need to subscribe for BBM plans with your telecom operator which may cost you around Rs300 per month.

In addition to voice calling, BBM 7 Beta will also feature the backup functionality which will allow users to sync profile, contacts and groups with the Blackberry ID in order to facilitate a seamless transfer to other Blackberry devices.

As of now BBM 7 is available only for Blackberry smart phones running Blackberry OS 6 or above. However, Rim has announced to launch the app soon for Blackberry 5 OS as well.
