India's largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel has announced its plans to bring the new Apple iPhone 4 by October. On the sidelines of a CII industry conference, Bharti Airtel's CEO Sanjay Kapoor told reporters, "We are working with Apple. Hopefully, we will launch it in the September-October timeframe."
It's been two years that Bharti is selling iPhone 3GS in India which comes at a price tag of Rs 35,500 (16GB model) and Rs 41,500 for the 32GB model. It should be noted that Bharti and Vodafone are the only operators in India to sell this phone.
And this time also, they will the only operators who will bring the whole new and shiny iPhone 4 to the country. Earlier in June, Vodafone Essar had already announced its plans to launch the iPhone 4 in India, without mentioning any specific timeframe for the same.
Now that the news might bring cheers to those tech-savvy Indians who are desperately looking to own one iPhone 4; and the 3G services -- which is expected to be launched by this year end -- would also give a definite boost to these high-end phones in the country now. But again keeping in mind the price-conscious market, the demand could also depend on the pricing of iPhone 4.
At the time of launch, Apple announced its plan to launch iPhone 4 in 88 countries by the month of September. So, we can hope for the launch by this period. What say??
