Dell streak is the world’s first tablet-mobile hybrid and grabbed a lot of attention due to its 5-inch screen size. Many people did not buy it just because of its outdated Android 1.6 OS, although it got a 2.1 update later on. So the good news is that soon the company will start shipping a newer version of this machine which will be loaded with Android 2.2 (Froyo).
“The company will start shipping Streaks with Android 2.2 very soon, and the OS will be pushed down to existing users as an upgrade in a matter of weeks,” said Steve Felice, president of the Global Consumer, Small and Medium Business division. “We wanted to get the product to market, we weren’t ready for 2.2, so we went ahead,” Felice added.
Dell has built using a new UI called “Stage”, which will also be pushed with Android 2.2 update. According to the company, Stage will make it easier for users to spot applications, movies, books and other content on the device.
No time-table from the Dell has been announced yet regarding the updates to the products already purchased, but we hope to hear it soon.
