Let’s see what made headlines from Microsoft and Sony at E3-
In a surprise move, Microsoft refurbished its 8 year old Xbox 360 console. Everybody had though that Microsoft will be offering only single gaming console through Xbox 360, but it seems that Microsoft want to offer both consoles targeting different price points. Xbox 360 shares the same design language of Xbox One giving it a sleeker and slimmer look. It’s available for retail purchase starting today at the same price of $399 which it’s earlier version was being offered at. Microsoft also announced few exclusive games for Xbox 360.
Microsoft also announced Xbox Live Gold subscription plan which provides member with two free games every month. The first two games would be Assassin's Creed 2 and Halo 3.
Microsoft had already given all the specifications of Xbox One already, barring price. The console is attractively priced at $499 and will be available for purchase starting November. Microsoft also announced numerous exclusive Games for Xbox One- ‘Meal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’, ‘RYSE: Son of Rome’, ‘Forza 5’, ‘Minecraft’, ‘Killer Instinct', ‘Sunset Overdrive’, ‘Crimson Dragon’, Battlefield 4’, etc.
Microsoft also announced some more integration with Smart Glass for some cool interactions. It has announced support for Twitch offering live streaming.
It also ditched points in favor of real currency, which will eventually support local national currencies as well.
The design of the console was the main mystery surrounding PS4 and today it got unveiled.
The PS4 is powered by an AMD octa-core processor with Radeon GPU. For memory, It has an 8 GB DDR5 RAM, a 6x Blu-ray drive, and a built-in hard drive for storage.
The device has a DualShock4 controller which offers touch sensitive surface and share button to upload game screenshots to online services. It also comes with additional accessory in the form of PlayStation 4 Eye offering twin camera and a four-microphone array.
Similar to Xbox, Sony announced several exclusive games for the PS4 like The Order: 1886, Watch Dogs, Final Fantasy XV (formerly Final Fantasy Versus XIII), Kingdom Hearts 3, Batman: Arkham Origins, and much more.
Unlike Microsoft Xbox One which has imposed several restrictions on the games, PS4 supports used games. Sony has also kept it simple- a disc based game which can be sold, lent, kept forever and most importantly doesn’t require an active internet connection.
Similar to Xbox One, PlayStation comes with a Plus membership which allows users to get some games for free. The PS 4 also comes with cloud save functionality to save the ongoing game to the cloud.
Sony is literally taking on the competition with Xbox One by undercutting its price by $100. The PS4 will be available at $399 starting this holiday season.
