Over last few months it has been widely speculated on the Web the largest social network Facebook may come up with its own mobile phone. Now the news has been confirmed. It is learned the social giant is in work with HTC to launch its own brand smartphone in the market, and it is expected to hit the stores by mid-2013.
A recent Bloomberg report said Facebook intended of releasing the device by the end of this year but pushed back it to 2013 to give some more time to HTC to work on the device.
It is also learned from the Bloomberg report that Facebook is looking ahead of developing a modified OS for its smartphone and has assembled former programmers of Apple Inc.
Data reveals more than half of 900 million users of the social giant access Facebook through their mobile devices and the advertising sales didn't come from mobile phone ads last year.
According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the upcoming Facebook phones will have built-in features to woo marketers.
Topeka Capital Markets Inc. Victor Anthony said, "Usage is shifting to mobile, and they have not been able to monetize mobile... To the extent that it’s a device you own and carry around with you at all times, and it ties into the Facebook experience, it will be beneficial. They could then put a lot of ads onto the platform."
