The flagship Android smartphone from Lenovo – slim, lightweight and fully loaded
Large-screen smartphones may be quite compelling for quite a few users, but it seems that many companies are now returning their focus towards sleeker devices that allow users to be more productive with the use of a single hand. One such manufacturer, Lenovo has announced the launch of the slimmest and the lightest Android smartphone, the Lenovo Vibe X for the Indian market. While many manufacturers claim to have made the lightest possible Android smartphone, Lenovo has made it possible with the Vibe X offering a 5-inch display based smartphone that tips the scales at a mere 121 grams including the battery. We got to experience the Vibe X at the launch event and came back quite impressed... so here are our first impressions of the Lenovo Vibe X.
The Lenovo Vibe X is marginally smaller than an average smartphone but offers far greater functionality and is designed for better utility and single-handed usage, despite its 5-inch display. In terms of the design, its 6.9mm slim body is one of its USPs and even with a large display, the device stays at 121 grams in terms of its total weight. Without a doubt, it's one of the lightest smartphones available in the Indian market today.
For the construction Lenovo has resorted to polycarbonate as it makes the devices sturdy and eliminates the additional weight that metallic bodies bring along with them. To add more strength, the company has utilized Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protective surface for the display, making it scratch and damage resistant.
The Vibe X comes in a standard dual-tone, black front and sliver back body. Adoption of a unibody design has allowed designers to make this device slim and the most surprising element is its 121grams of total eight that includes the weight of a 2,000 mAh battery pack as well.
The Lenovo Vibe X gets a 5-inch Full HD IPS display featuring a magnificent pixel density of 401 ppi making visuals detailed without any signs of pixilation visible to the naked eye. An innovation that Lenovo has adopted for the Vibe X is swipe to power-on – users just need to swipe at the bottom of the display to power up the display, which aids single-handed usage as there is no need to reach out to the power button. Also a bit of a clever tweak implemented by Lenovo is that the device detects the presence of a user and unlocks the device. This is done with the use of the front facing camera for face recognition.
The Lenovo Vibe X gets a 1.5 GHz, quad-core application processor from MediaTek for speedy command processing and coupled with 2GB of RAM, it gives it the muscle to handle complex applications with ease. The only bummer is that the device gets a 16GB of internal storage, which isn't expandable.
For imagery, the Lenovo Vibe X boasts of a 13-megapixel rear camera capable of recording full HD videos at 30 frames and a 5-megapixel front camera with a wide-angle lens.
The device is priced at Rs 25,999 and offers impressive overall specifications, but the bottom-line still remains that it’s the lightest and the slimmest Android smartphone in India as of now. However, we can only comment on the real-world performance when we review the device. Presently, the device is available only on pre-booking and will start shipping out to users in the coming days. So watch this space for more updates on the Lenovo Vibe X and its detailed review as well.
