“Here’s the unboxing and our first impressions of Flipkart’s foray into the tablet space”
Flipkart is one of the biggest online stores in India, selling a huge number of products online, including electronics, clothes, appliances and others. However, it's diversifying from its main business and has recently announced the launch of its first ever mobile device, the Digiflip Pro XT712 tablet In India. The Digiflip Pro XT712 is a 7-inch tablet that comes complete with 3G connectivity along with voice calling facility as well. The slate has been priced at Rs 9,999 and mainly competes with offerings from Indian brands. While nothing can be said about the success of the device, as that's something only time will tell, we can comment about its performance. Before our full review, here's the unboxing and our first impressions regarding the slate.
The box of the Digiflip Pro tablet reminds us of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3100 and has similar dimensions too. The tablet comes safely tucked inside, protected by a plastic cover, and lined with protective foam padding all around to protect it from bumps and jerks that the box might encounter while transportation.
Underneath the slate, all accessories have been placed. First up is the wall charger that has been placed under a layer of cardboard below the tablet. Lifting the second layer of the cardboard reveals other accessories that include a USB cable, stereo headphones and a USB On-the-Go adapter.
In addition to this, the Digiflip Pro also comes with an audio extension cable, which is not longer than 2-inches in length, and therefore it is difficult to guess the purpose of providing it in the box. Along with this, you also get a cleaning cloth, which is very useful for keeping this device tidy. Also included is the user manuals and other documents along with the device. That it for the unboxing, now let’s proceed to the first impressions of the Digiflip Pro tablet.
The Digiflip Pro tablet is Flipkart’s attempt of stepping into the tablet market in India by offering a premium-budget product at a pocket-friendly price tag. The tablet comes in two colour options featuring a body made up of polycarbonate and metal. The device has a sleek look and is lightweight as well. The surface of the device is all glass, that adds a touch of class as well as makes it durable and scratch-resistant. In terms of colour options, it has been offered in white and black variants.
As far as the design goes, the Digiflip Pro tablet has a slightly square-ish design with the ports placed on top and bottom of the device. On the right-hand side, there is the volume rocker and the power/standby key which are very comfortable for most users who are right handed. Additionally, on the front, the device has no hardware keys and the scratch-resistant layer runs edge-to-edge, giving the tablet a flush and neat finish.
The Digiflip Pro tablet features a 7-inch IPS display with capacitive touch input and a 1,280 x 800 pixel resolution. The display is built using IPS technology that offers better viewing angles as well as better contrast ratios. The overall performance of the touch and display is good, but our full review will have the complete details.
The tab comes with the dated Android Jelly Bean 4.2 platform and runs on a 1.3GHz quad-core chipset, coupled with a 1GB of RAM for easy multitasking. This hardware combination gives the device fluid touch response as well as faster application execution times. Along with that, the device gets 16GB of internal storage, expandable by another 32GB via microSD cards.
The device flaunts a 5-megapixel rear camera capable of recording HD videos as well and a 2-megapixel resolution front camera. There are ample connectivity options in the form of dual-SIM with 3G connectivity offered on the primary SIM and 2.5G on the secondary. Alongside, there is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as well. The Digiflip Pro tab also features direct voice calling which means users can make calls directly from it.
All in all, the Digiflip Pro looks like it offers good value for money and comes in as a solid contender for the premium-budget tablet segment. We will be bringing the full review of the device in the coming days, so stay tuned.
