“The world’s slimmest smartphone arrived in our labs today, and here's a quick unboxing”
Gionee is making big waves in the crowded smartphone market in India with its feature-packed and well-priced devices. Its latest smartphone, the Elife S5.5 boasts of being the slimmest Android smartphone available in the market currently, all thanks to its 5.5mm slim body. Even with this sleek construction, the device is equipped with top-of-the-line hardware.
The S5.5 sports a 5-inch display featuring 1080p resolution. The internals of the smartphone include MediaTek’s true octa-core chipset, the MT6592 with each core clocked at 1.7GHz. This is accompanied by generous 2GB of RAM. For storage, the device comes with 16GB of onboard memory, which sadly can’t be expanded further. However, you can make use of the USB OTG feature to plug in a USB drive. Camera-wise, it has a 13-megapixel camera at the back with an LED flash, and a 5MP wide-angle front-facing shooter. The smartphone runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, with Gionee's proprietary Amigo OS on top.
Without further adieu, let’s start with the unboxing.
True to its slimness, the device comes packed in a fairly slim box. Opening it up revealed a shiny new smartphone. To protect the S5.5, the packaging includes a flip cover which needs to be adhered to the rear of the device. This way, the cover doesn’t add much bulk and keeps it slim.
Keeping the device aside, the box offers a travel adapter with the other accessories packed neatly inside small boxes. A USB cable is included too, of course, used for charging the Elife S5.5 or data transfers. To make use of USB On-the-Go capabilities, the manufacturer has included an OTG cable in the box.
There’s also a user guide, warranty information and a service centre list. What really surprised us though is the availability of not just one or two, but five screen protectors. The bundled SIM ejector tool helps in pulling out the SIM tray from the device.
The looks and specs of the Gionee Elife S5.5 have already enticed us and we’re looking forward to spending time with it. Stay tuned, as we’ll be bringing you more details about the device and its real-life performance soon.
