Google Voice Search, the standard built-in app on every Android Smartphone can now understand more speaking languages. Google added support to another 13 languages in its Search app and adds up to total 42 languages. Therefore, the newly-supported languages are

  • Basque
  • Bulgarian
  • Catalan
  • European Portuguese
  • Finnish
  • Galician
  • Hungarian
  • Icelandic
  • Norwegian
  • Romanian
  • Serbian
  • Slovak
  • Swedish

Though Google Voice Search app is facilitated with multiple language support, it can understand only one language at a time. The user must tune-in some settings when he required to search in other language than default. Initially Google had tough times to implement the languages like Arabic and Chinese. Later, they were able to settle the issues with their engineers, scientists and several volunteers. The Google Voice Search App is available for Android, iOS and a few other platforms. However, the app is much popular on Android operating system.

According to Google, “each new language usually requires that we initially collect hundreds of thousands of utterances from volunteers and, although we’ve been working on speech recognition for several years, adding these new languages led our engineers and scientists to tackle some unique challenges.”

Google Voice App for Android can be downloaded for free via Google Play.
