Hands On - Nokia Lumia 820, less expensive alternative to Windows Phone

sunil|November 15 2012 |New Product, Nokia, Smart Phones

If there are any phones representing the Windows 8 vision - different phones for different people, it is this next-generation Lumia. This phone has an outer cover which is detachable and functions with a range of cases. It is capable of wireless charging.

Nokia Lumia 820

Below the lid, there is a removable 1,650 mAH battery for fueling and access to expandable micro SD storage. It is powered by 1 GB of RAM and the same 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor used in Lumia 920. It sports a 4.3-inch OLED 800 x 480 pixel display.

Lumia 820 did not get enough lift as compared with Lumia 920 because 920 channeled the design of older Lumia cellphones, but the 820 detoured to a different tack.

The design of the device is acceptable. The button layout follows the Windows Phone template.

Inside, the connectivity features NFC, 820.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.1 support and both A-GPS and GLONASS. The Lumia 820 does not hold back on radios.

The mediocre 800 x 480 resolution in a 4.3-inch display is better suited for a last generation Windows Phone. Also, it maintains a good quality smartphone cameras. It is equipped with a powerful dual- LED flash and Carl Zeiss lens.

There is not much to add but for kids there is "Angry Birds Star Wars" - on time gaming. More to this, the performance and battery life rests upon a smaller battery, less screen (and fewer pixels) to power.

Nokia continues to add to the experience with its own exclusive apps.

The display is smaller than Lumia 920. But hardware has weight. There is a replaceable battery for power users and the inclusion of microSD storage to have added memory.
