HP Envy 17 3D Owners Pride or Neighbours Envy

|February 6 2013 |Laptops, HP

There is finally some relief for the hardcore gamers as HP has introduced a notebook- the HP Envy 17 3D, which supports gaming as well as has the other features of a quality notebook. Normally whenever a notebook is introduced into the market, there is a lot of anticipation regarding the configuration and there is always some hope that it would support the gaming requirements of the average gamer. Until now, all of us have been quite disappointed because no notebook has been able to live up to its expectations. We cannot blame the manufacturers entirely because it is difficult to provide all these features given the limited physical space available on a notebook.

Although the HP Envy 17 3D is not very light, it is still something which can be carried around for gaming purposes. The notebook is quite large and opens up to a 17 inch screen. It has a thick metal body mainly because it is packed with powerful components which are missing in other notebooks. The notebook also comes with some accessories such as a pair of 3D glasses which is powered by a flat battery. This notebook can be carried around for LAN parties and supports games such as Counter Strike, Quake 3, etc. Although this notebook is not equipped with a very powerful processor and a high quality graphics card, it still tries to satisfy the needs of a gamer. HP has at least taken some initiative to provide us with a powerful gaming notebook, something which has not been done till date.

Apart from having a large display, this notebook also comes with a high resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This is something which will please the gamers. The keys are small and nicely laid out on the keypad. The smaller keys allow spacing between them which is good for a notebook. It is a welcome feature for gamers but not for someone who wants to use the notebook for typing out a document quickly. Apart from this, it also comes with a large trackpad, which is quite accurate. The power adapter is quite big and this adds to the overall weight when carried around.

HP offers different configurations for the notebooks depending upon the needs of the user. The Envy 17 3D is available with a dual core processor, 4 GB of RAM and a single 640 GB hard drive. On the other hand, the high end model comes with a Core i7 quad core processor, 8 GB of RAM and two 750 GB hard drives. The notebook also comes with 3 USB ports. One of the port doubles as an E-SATA ports. The HDMI port supports the latest 1.4 version of HDMI and the Mini-Display Port can be used to connect the notebook to HDTV’s. The notebook also sports a 3D Blue-ray drive which allows the user to use Blue-ray discs and watch movies. Although watching a movie on such a small display may not be very enjoyable, it still serves the purpose.

Although the Envy 17 3D is a powerful notebook, it still does not support some of the high end games such as Dragon Age 2, Crysis 2, Lost Planet 2, etc. This is mainly because the notebook does not sport a high quality graphics card like the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570. But thanks to HP, we now at least have a notebook which can be used for basic gaming purposes. Hopefully we can soon see more changes and more powerful notebooks in future.
