Ice Cream Sandwich makes a debut entry to Android distribution Pie

|January 5 2012 |Android, Industry News, market research

Android developer portal releases the latest statistics on the division of Android OS versions. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich appears for the first time in the contributing 0.6 percent of all Android devices. Since, the gathering of statistical data ended a day back these are very much close to the reality. Just six weeks since Samsung Galaxy Nexus went on sale in Europe and three weeks back it was made available in US. While looking at the official upgrades from OEM, only the Huawei Honor called for an ICS upgrade. So, the contribution of ICS is quite noticeable when compared to earlier versions.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to gain more share in the coming days because of two reasons. One because of Google released the source code of Android Ice Cream Sandwich immediately after the commercial launch. Secondly, unlike Android HoneyComb, this platform works in-common for Smartphones and tablets. Adding to this, OEM's are offering Android upgrades for smartphones purchased in 2011 and running Android Gingerbread. This could probably eat away a large share of Gingerbread.
