Idea reduces internet charges across India

|November 12 2013 |

"Both 2G as well as 3G data rates have been slashed pan India"

India’s third largest telecom operator, Idea Cellular has announced a tariff reduction in both 2G as well as 3G tariffs for its users in India. This announcement follows the earlier announcement that was made in the month of July earlier this year, where Idea slashed 2G data rates by about 90 percent in 10 circles. Now the same reduction has been announced for all the circles across India and users can enjoy internet browsing at 2 paisa/10KB basis the pay as you go plan.

Similarly 3G data tariffs have also been reduced by the telecom operator in 10 circles throughout the country. Following the reduction users would be offered a 30 percent reduction in usage charges as opposed to earlier. Although final tariff details are yet to be announced by the company, users can expect 3G data usage also to be priced similar to 2G data tariffs in the coming days. Idea will be rolling out the reduced tariffs from 15 November onward pan India.

Vodafone also recently had announced a similar reduction in its data pricing for both 2G as well as 3G customers across the country. But unfortunately these reductions would only be beneficial for subscribers of the pay as you go plan and would mean no change in tariff or usage charges for those users who go in for monthly data bundles.

This reduction would be majorly beneficial for existing subscribers as they would now be paying substantially lesser money for the same amount of data consumed and would also offer new subscribers an opportunity to access data over mobile devices at reduced cost.
