Intex to launch low-cost Android handset soon

|December 27 2010 |Android Phones

Low-cost Android wars have begun in India. Micromax set the ball rolling with the release of Andro A60, a low-cost affordable android handset. When launched, the phone was priced at Rs. 7,000 and the price has been steadily dropping and now the handset can be purchased at Rs. 6,500. The drop in price may be due to the consistent demand for the handset in the market. Moreoever, Micromax is one Indian brand which is popular among mobile phone buyers. Other Indian mobile brands wants to cash on the trend. So, Intex has announced that it will soon launch a android-powered handset at Rs. 5,500 (nearing the sub-100$ barrier very fast!)

The proposed handset would be powered by Android Froyo (2.2) and is expected to be launched by Mid-February. The phone houses a 3.2 mega pixel camera and has a 2.8 inch display with resistive touch screen. Micromax A60 has almost same specifications.

In addition, Intex is planning to expand it's V-Show model which has an in-built projector.
