iPad Mini vs Nexus 7 vs Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

Isn't Apple dominated the larger tablet market till date? Of course yes. You surely agree. Now, does Apple want to dominate the smaller screen tablet market too? Time will give the answer, surely.


But can we give a try to find out now whether the just launched iPad Mini is better than competitors. If not, which brand will lead in near future? Let us just compare it with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and Google Nexus 7 32GB.

Apple's iPad Mini sports 7.9-inch LED-backlit Multi-Touch display with IPS technology, providing a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and having pixel density of 163ppi, which is same as first iPad and iPad 2. The Cupertino guys claims the new device is to give same experience as the full-fledged iPad but with lesser screen real estate.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, in contrast, features a PLS LCD display with TouchWiz UX UI, providing resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and having pixel density of 170ppi.

Google's recent upgraded Nexus 7 32GB on-board storage sports 7-inch screen with 1280 x 800 pixels display and offers 216 pixels per inch density.


The iPad Mini is 200 x 134.7 x 7.2mm in dimensions and weighs 312g. The iDevice giant says the thickness is as thin as pencil.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 dimensions measure 193.7 x 122.4 x 10.5mm and it weighs 345g.

Google's Nexus 7 measures 120 x 10.45 x 198.5mm in dimensions and it weighs 340g.

Operating System

iPad Mini runs on the latest mobile operating system of Apple - iOS 6. It is equipped with additional 200 features than iOS 5. It is also being speculated lately that soon new version of the iOS, dubbed as iOS 6.0.1, will release with some more new and exciting features.

Samsung originally launched Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system. After the release of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS the company has released a list of its Galaxy devices to be upgraded with the new OS. The tablet is also included in it.

The Nexus 7 too runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS.


iPad Mini is powered by A5 chip of Apple that features dual-core processor and is similar to that of iPad 2. Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is powered by Texas Instrument's OMAP 4430 chip and it features dual-core processor with PowerVR SGX540 graphics unit. It runs with clock speed of 1GHz. Nexus 7 runs on quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.


iPad Mini is equipped with 5-megapixel primary camera with 1080p HD video recording and 1.2-megapixel front facing camera. Galaxy Tab features 3-megapixel camera with geo-tagging and smile detection features and 720p at 30 fps video capturing. The front facing camera is of VGA quality. The Nexus 7 only features 1.2-megapixel front camera.


Apple promises iPad Mini to offer 10 hours of battery life on Wi-Fi model and the Wi-Fi + 3G/4G will run the tablet for 9 hours when web browsing, watching video and listening music. It runs with a built-in 16.3 watt-hour battery. The Galaxy Tab runs with 4000mAh battery and promises to offer 20 hours of talk time on 3G and 40 hours on 3G connection. Nexus 7 is fueled by 4325mAh battery and Google claims it to offer 10.1 hours of video battery life.
