iPhone 5S was not the only device announced by Apple at Cupertino. For the first time in Apple’s history, it has launched two iPhones, while we’ve already discussed iPhone 5S, the other is dubbed as iPhone 5C. The C might stand for colorful as this variant of iPhone brings lots of bright colors to the smartphone. Here’s our thoughts about the Apple iPhone 5C-
The iPhone 5C is available in not just one or two, but five vibrant colors of Blue, Green, White, Yellow and Pink. Since, it’s one tier down the iPhone 5S, the build of the device has been replaced from metal to the plastic. But, unlike plastic material used by Samsung and other manufacturers, Apple have managed to use the single polycarbonate body giving it a much better look and feel. The plastic body has an added layer of strength with Steel reinforced frame also doubling up as device antenna. In terms of controls and ports, there is no change between iPhone 5C and previous models of iPhone.
Apple is also promoting its colorful cases which are having holes in them. Thus when used with iPhone 5C, they complement the color of each other. The material used in both also complements each other since the case has matte finish, unlike the glossy finish of plastic. Though the look might be down to personal preference as some may not like this appearance.
The display is exactly same as iPhone 5 with a 4 inch IPS screen bearing a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels (called as Retina Display by Apple). The pixel density offered by the screen is 326 ppi.
The iPhone 5C features an Apple A6 SoC with a 1.3 GHz dual-core processor, which was also present in iPhone 5. It also has a PowerVR SGX543MP3 graphics processor. The processor is backed up with a 1 GB of RAM ensuring smooth performance while playing games or doing true multitasking which is one of the new features introduced in iOS 7.
The device is available in two memory options- 16 GB and 32 GB.
The battery as claimed by the Apple is really impressive as it gives talk time of up to 10 hours during 3G and standby time of up to 250 hours.
The device sports an 8 MP iSight camera with BSI sensor, autofocus and LED flash. It offers slew of features such as HDR, Panorama, geo-tagging, face detection, etc. It’s also capable of shooting Full HD videos @ 30 fps with video stabilization functionality.
For video chatting purposes, the device has a 1.2 MP FaceTime camera which is able to record 720p video @ 30 fps.
On connectivity front, the device has usual features like 2G/ 3G and LTE support for all countries. It also has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and GPS.
If you notice closely, there is no difference between iPhone 5C and last generation iPhone 5, except perhaps for the plastic body in bright colors. The pricing of the device as expected to be targeted at budget-sensitive crowd turned out to be wrong as in a bid to keep up with its Premium Appeal, the 5C is priced at $549 for 16 GB version and $649 for 32 GB.
