The 3G Data cards are good solution for mobile internet/broadband needs. But these usb-based data cards are pretty expensive. Tata Photon plus comes @ Rs. 2,500. The recently announced Reliance 3G Data cards costs Rs. 2599 and Rs. 4499 (21mbps supported version) respectively. Why do these devices cost so much? After all it's a mobile phone minus display, battery, keyboard and all the nuances.
Fueled by this thought, two youths from Biju Patnaik university of Technology - Orissa has developed a 3G data card that will cost just Rs. 1,300. The 3G USB Modem supports 7.2mbps download speed (HSDPA) and 384kbps upload speed. The card supports 2G network too (EDGE/GPRS). The device can support upto 21 Mbps claims the developers. What's more, the data card comes with genuine IMEI number and a dedicated SIM card slot, so you can tap onto any mobile network with whom you have valid subscription.
