When it comes to smartphones, Lenovo has been offering quite a few interesting products for the smartphone buyers in India and among these, we have seen some hits and misses as well. The Lenovo’s K900Android smartphone for instance, was a brilliant smartphone and is still selling online giving competition to other Android smartphones out there in the market. When it came to technology and features, the K900 was fully loaded. Built upon similar lines and following the same ideology of offering a fully-loaded device, Lenovo has announced the launch of its new flagship Android smartphone the Vibe Z2 Pro, which has been priced at a compelling price point of 32,999. Now the Z2 Pro is a 4G-ready smartphone that sadly does not support the Indian 4G/LTE frequencies, but some things are in the pipeline and the company will be soon making more information regarding this scenario in the coming days. Otherwise, the device is a loaded smartphone complete with a very capable camera as well.

Metal is the new buzzword when it comes to the choice of materials for making mobile devices by manufacturers today and the Z2 is no stranger to this treatment. Lenovo has cleverly made use of both metal as well as plastics in the making of its new flagship and has given it some really impressive build as well as classy look and feel. The device has been made with metal on the back with bits of plastic wherever necessary to reduce weight while not compromising on the sturdiness. The Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro is similar to the older flagship K900 in terms of its overall size and dimensions, though the designers have managed to fit in a bigger 6-inch display on a device bearing similar dimensions as its predecessor. The display covers up nearly 85 percent of the real estate on the front.

In addition to the display, the front gets three hardware capacitive touch keys on the bottom of the display which are a tad too small but do not cause any kind of issues with the functionality bit of the device. For protection against scratches, the display gets Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3, though users will have to be careful as a bigger display is more prone to damage.

In terms of the overall weight, the device has offer a sturdy build and a beefy 4,000 mAh battery all within an overall weight of 178 grams to be specific, and due to the bigger size and a larger area sharing the centre of gravity, the device actually feels pretty light while using. The edges have been given a slight bend inwards, which additionally improves the handling and promotes better grip.

The device gets a behemoth display complete with a eye-pleasing 2K or 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution, all encased in an LTPS technology based 6-inch LCD. Not just the resolution, but even the brightness levels offered by the display are brilliant, resulting in vibrant and crisp looking visuals. The device gets all its computing muscle from a Qualcomm snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz along with the Adreno 330 GPU, which is directly responsible for the visual performance offered by this device. All in all, the device performs really well and zips through the applications and games... and the 3GB RAM makes all the difference by offering ample headroom for glitch-free multitasking.

One minor downside of the device is its 32GB non-expandable memory, which as per today’s application standards may not be too low, but will definitely run out if you are into HD gaming and especially considering all the 2K content this device is capable of playing. To answer this concern the company has offered a USB OTG feature, which can also support portable hard disc drives as well and therefore users can get access more data on the go.

The camera featured on the device uses the same sensor as the one featured on the flagship Samsung smartphone the Galaxy S5, and offer a 16-megapixel resolution, which further becomes more interesting with the pro photography mode offered by the device. This covers all controls, be it focus, aperture, white balance and ISO to name a few. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel fixed-focus selfie cam, which also doubles up as the video calling resolution as well.

Lenovo has also gone full throttle with the Z2 Pro and offered a nifty software solution in terms of the new Vibe user interface, which has been layered on top of Android KitKat 4.4. As an add-on, users also get a choice of user interface which is not a third-party UI but Google’s very own stock KitKat user interface and users if need be can use it on the Z2 and is truly a brilliant inclusion.
