LG shows off a 5-inch Android smartphone LG Optimus Vu in a teaser video. Based on the device facts we can understand that LG marks it entry to the tablet sized smartphone. Unfortunately, LG isn't the first one to explore this category. While looking at the timeline, there are only a few traces of such kind. The over-sized smartphone got introduced to the market are Dell Streak 5, Samsung Galaxy Note and the LG Optimus Vu. Apparently, LG is trying to occupy the position next to Samsung Galaxy Note.

The new LG Optimus Vu comes with a 5-inch IPS touchscreen display with 1024 x 768 pixels resolution. The video teaser hints that Optimus Vu carries a 4:3 aspect ratio screen. Therefore the device will have a large surface left on the bezel other than the 5-inch display screen. Under the hood, Optimus Vu packed with a 1.5Ghz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal memory. The device sports an 8.0 Megapixel camera on the rear-side and no signs of front-facing camera. Another challenging part is that LG Optimus Vu runs on Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread. No word about the Android 4.0 ICS update. Looking at the connectivity options, the device comes with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC (Near Field Communication). The pricing and availability of the device in the markets are yet to be known.
