"The LG Watch Urbane LTE can make calls and send messages, and be used to make mobile payments. Here's a first look."At the recently-concluded Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we had the chance to check out LG's latest smartwatch, the Watch Urbane LTE. A close cousin of the Watch Urbane, the Watch Urbane LTE lets you make calls and send and receive messages thanks to its integrated 4G antenna. Unlike the Watch Urbane which runs Android Wear, LG has decided to take a different route with the LTE variant, using its own wearables platform based on webOS, which will apparently feature on all its future wearables. Another distinguishing feature of the LG Watch Urbane LTE is that it can also make mobile payments (think Apple Pay with the Apple Watch) thanks to its integrated NFC connectivity.
The Watch Urbane LTE features the same round 1.3-inch P-OLED 320 x 320 pixel display as its non-LTE variant. The display is surrounded in bulky steel casing, which extends over the sides to accomodate the 700mAh battery. The main watchface shows you the time as well as your fitness stats at a glance. Powering the smartwatch is a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, paired with 1GB of RAM. 4GB of memory takes care of storage needs. This silver hue is the only colour option available.
There are three buttons on the right. The one on top opens the quick settings seen above, the one in the centre brings up the apps screen, while the one at the bottom serves as a back button, and can also be programmed to call a preset number and send it your location in case of emergencies. Among the pre-installed apps are a dialer, messages, calendar, music player and a few fitness apps.
The underside is where the heart-rate sensor is located. The Watch Urbane LTE also packs in a barometer, accerelometer and compass for health-related features. In addition, it is IP67-certified for dust- and water-resistance. The rubberised watch strap is non-removable.
Smartphones have become a necessity in today's digital age. Be it browsing the web or connecting with you...
