MNP launches tomorrow. BSNL lures mobile customers.

The state-owned telecom company BSNL is all set to launch Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in Haryana tomorrow. Union minister for IT and communications Mr. Kapil Sibal and Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder singh hooda will inaugurate the service tomorrow in a function.


BSNL has come up with some promotional offers to the customers exercising MNP. Mobile Number Portability (MNP) allows you to retain your existing mobile number irrespective of the mobile operator. So if you are unhappy with your airtel/aircel/tata/idea or any other operator connection, you can shift over to BSNL.

BSNL will allow you to port-in your mobile numer to them FREE OF CHARGE. That's right, the MNP charges would be waived off. In addition, the customers would get a First Recharge Coupon of his choice for free. Plus, you get an additional talk time of Rs. 100 and you get to enjoy UNLIMITED GPRS for the first month!

Procedure to port-in your number to BSNL:

1. Obtain Unique Porting Code (UPC) by sending an SMS to 1900 in the format ‘Port Space 10 digit mobile number’ e.g. Port 9416xxxxxx.

2. Fill BSNL CAF for mobile connection and a Porting CAF mentioning UPC. Also, mention desired FRC and an alternate number on the BSNL/Porting CAF.

3. BSNL would provide you a blank/empty SIM that is not configured yet. Do not insert this SIM yet. The processing time is around 72-96 hours.

4. Before disconnection of services from previous service provider, you will receive an SMS intimating that your services will be disconnected shortly and you will be connected with new service provider in around 2 hours.

5. After that, insert the SIM in your mobile and enjoy BSNL services.
