As we settle into 2015, it's time to take one last look at the key events that defined and shaped the mobile industry in the year that passed. While our smartphones incorporated futuristic tech like curved displays, 2K resolutions, 64-bit processors and humungous batteries, it was the wearables segment that really stole the show in 2014. Thanks to Google’s Android Wear operating system, we saw several big brands like LG, Motorola and ASUS dip their toes into this space. Even Apple unveiled its own smartwatch in the form of the Apple Watch, which is set to make a commercial appearance this year. And it wasn't just smartwatches alone, but even fitness trackers, activity bands and smart headsets that flooded the market.

Taking a more local view of things, India's smartphone market became a veritable hotbed, with several Chinese brands like OPPO, Xiaomi, vivo and OnePlus making their debuts here, and Google vying for a slice of the pie with its Android One initiative. The surge of new Chinese entries and the revival of some established players like Motorola, ASUS, Lenovo and Huawei ignited the price wars in India, making the budget smartphone arena an extremely lucrative one. Adding fuel to the fire was the spate of exclusive partnerships with ecommerce giants like Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal, moving sales from a traditional offline medium to a more volatile online format.
