Mobile number portability from Nov 25

|November 3 2010 |Industry News, Mobile Operators

TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) and DoT (Department of Telecom) recently announced, the mobile number portability will be implemented nationwide from Oct 31st. The launch was delayed thrice because some telecom operators weren't prepared. This was further delayed to November 25, 2010.

The Department of Telecom (DoT), has now announced that Mobile number portability in India will be started from Haryana circle on 25th and across the other 22 circles in phases after. A detailed schedule will be released soon.

Further, a statement clarifies that a “Suitable migration plan” has been evolved in consultation with the network providers in order to facilitate the services in reliable manner.

However, Mr. Pilot (Minister of State for Communications and Information and Technology) says “The MNP will make the mobile sector more competitive as companies will be forced to upgrade and improve their services leading to more benefits for customers in terms of both quality of service and its cost-effectiveness,”.
