The month of March was populated by a spate of budget blockbusters, including the 2nd-gen Moto E, Xiaomi Redmi 2 and Honor 4x. On the flagship front, we had both the latest flagships from Samsung make an entry, along with the power-charged Moto Turbo. Our roundup has all the details.

Motorola Moto E (2nd-gen)


Nearly a year after making a splash with the Moto E, Motorola launched the second-gen variant of its popular budget smartphone. The Moto E 2nd-gen features a 4.5-inch 960 x 540 pixel display, protected by Gorilla Glass 3. It’s powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, mated to 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal expandable storage. It gets a 5MP autofocus rear camera, a VGA front snapper, a 2,390mAh battery, dual-SIM and a (nearly) stock version of Android Lollipop. A 4G variant of the device is expected to go on sale in India soon.

Honor 4x

The Honor 4x was launched last month under the flash sale model, and sold out within a minute of its first sale. The smartphone features a 5.5-inch HD display and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM. There’s 8GB of internal expandable storage, 13MP/5MP cameras and a 3,000mAh battery. The device runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Huawei’s Emotion 3.0 UI on top. It is a dual-SIM device, with both slots supporting 4G.

Motorola Moto Turbo

Motorola’s latest flagship, the Moto Turbo, was launched on Flipkart last month. The premium smartphone features a 5.2-inch 2K display, a 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of fixed storage, 21MP/2MP cameras and a meaty 3,900mAh battery. It is a single SIM device with support for 4G, although it’s only compatible with LTE Band 3.

InFocus M2

Infocus M2

American smartphone manufacturer InFocus entered the Indian market with its first device, the M2. The smartphone features a 4.2-inch display with 720p resolution, and is equipped with a Snapdragon 400 processor mated to 1GB of RAM. It offers 8GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD. The cameras are one of its highlights, with 8MP autofocus shooters with LED flash at both the rear and the front. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat and is fuelled by a 2,110mAh battery. 

Xiaomi Mi Pad

Xiaomi’s maiden tablet, the Mi Pad, went on sale in India last month. The Wi-Fi only slate offers high-end specs such as a 7.9-inch display with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels, a 2.2GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor and a 6,700mAh battery. The tablet offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. There's an 8MP rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top.

Xiaomi Redmi 2


Just a few months after launching the Redmi 1s, Xiaomi released the second-gen version of its budget blockbuster, the Redmi 2. The device features a 5-inch HD display and runs Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6. Handling performance is a quad-core Snapdragon 410 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz, paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal expandable storage. There’s an 8MP primary camera with LED flash, as well as a 2MP front shooter. It draws power from a 2,200mAh battery. The dual-SIM (4G+4G) device is compatible with both LTE bands available in India.

HTC Desire 820-S

HTC Desire 820s Dual SIM

HTC’s mid-range lineup got a new entrant in the form of the Desire 820-S. The smartphone sports a 5.5-inch HD display and is powered by a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.7GHz. In the memory department, it gets 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage expandable up to 128GB. The device runs Android 4.4 KitKat with HTC’s Sense UI on top. Remaining features include 13MP/8MP cameras, BoomSound speakers, dual-SIM (4G+4G) and a 2,600mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge


Samsung’s latest flagships, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge finally went on sale in India in March. The duo share a chunk of their core specs, including a 5.1-inch 2K display, 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7 processor, 3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB/64GB storage variants, a 16MP primary camera, 5MP front snapper and 4G LTE. The main difference between the two handsets is the S6 Edge’s curved display. There’s also a slight variation in the battery – the S6 features a 2,550mAh unit while the S6 Edge draws power from a 2,600mAh module. Both smartphones run Android Lollipop layered with the latest version of TouchWiz

Sony Xperia E4 Dual

The dual-SIM variant of the Sony Xperia E4 was launched in India last month. The device features a 5-inch qHD display and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, aided by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal expandable memory. Camera features include a 5MP primary snapper with LED flash, along with a 2MP front shooter. It is backed by a 2,300mAh battery.



The XOLO LT2000 is the successor to the LT900, which was launched in late-2013. Like its predecessor, the dual-SIM LT2000 supports 4G in India. The device features a 5.5-inch HD display and is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor ticking at 1.2GHz, paired with 1GB of RAM. It gets 8GB of internal memory, expandable via microSD. It sports an 8MP rear camera with LED flash, as well as a 2MP front snapper. The dual-SIM device draws power from a 2,920mAh battery. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat, but XOLO has promised an update to Lollipop in the next few months. 

Other notable launches in the month of March include the XOLO Win Q1000, Micromax Canvas Juice 2 and LG G Pad 8.0
