The CDMA Service providers Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd. (SSTL) under the brand name of MTS has today won 800MHz band spectrum for 8 circles in India. But it failed to grab the spectrum license for three circles including Maharashtra & Goa, Mumbai and East Uttar Pradesh. Following which, MTS has to shut down its operation in these three circles.
MTS won the spectrum license for Delhi NCR, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kolkata, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh West and West Bengal. Rajasthan is already getting MTS services, as this circle was not affected by the order dated 2nd January 2012 by Honorable Supreme Court of India.
SSTL stated that they will not be bidding for these three circles i.e., Mumbai, Maharashtra & Goa. MTS India has already started informing its customers in these circles to port out to any other service provider as per their choice using Mobile number Portability (MNP).
MTS India has won the spectrum license in the 8 circles for a period of twenty years. For which the company has to pay around Rs.3,639 crores.
