“We try to answer all your questions about the newly-announced Reliance Jio’s Happy New Year offer”
Three months ago, RIL's Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani kicked off phase two of telecom wars in India with the commercial launch of Reliance Jio. The telecom upstart has been in headlines since then – be it for its free services under the Welcome offer, the war of words with the incumbent operators, or its impressive record of being the fastest telco to gain 50 million subscriber base in just 83 days. Today, Ambani took the stage once again to announce the extension of its free services under the Happy New Year offer. If you’re wondering what this offer is all about, and what does it brings to the table, then keep reading as we try to answer all your questions.
There were several rumours that the up-and-coming telecom operator would be extending its free services till March 31st, 2017, and the Happy New Year offer is exactly that. Under the offer, Jio subscribers would be able to enjoy SMS, voice / video calls, and 4G data free of charge along with other benefits like the subscription to Jio apps and access to JioNet Wi-Fi hotspots.
Yes. Irrespective of the fact whether one joined the Reliance Jio bandwagon under the Jio Preview offer or the Welcome offer, the company will migrate all its subscribers to the new offer. So existing users will be able to avail the benefits of the Welcome offer till 31st December this year, but then they will automatically be migrated to the Happy New Year offer on January 1st, 2017.
Keeping in line with TRAI’s 90-day policy for promotional offers by telecom operators, people who acquire new SIMs starting December 4th would be considered under the Jio Happy New Year offer (abbreviated as JNO). This means that those interested can acquire SIMs under this offer up to March 3rd, 2017, and the benefits will continue until March 31st.
Along with the change in name, there are also some subtle differences between the Happy New Year offer (JNO) and Welcome Offer (JWO):
1) The FUP limit has been reduced from 4GB to 1GB per day, and after exceeding that limit, the data speed will be reduced to 128kbps. This has been done reduce congestion in the network.
2) Starting next year, subscribers will be able to recharge their numbers online, which wasn't possible earlier.
3) So, if you exceeded your data limit and want to use more data at high speeds, then you can recharge your prepaid or postpaid connections with one of two recharge vouchers announced by Reliance Jio. For a day, you can purchase the Rs 51 voucher which offers 1GB data, while Rs 301 voucher would give you 6GB data valid for 28 days.
One can visit the Jio.com to recharge their mobile number, or use the MyJio or JioMoney app to recharge from the convenience of their smartphones.
Similar to the Welcome offer, you can get the SIM by showing the coupon code generated by the MyJio app on any 4G smartphone at any of the Reliance Digital stores. With the Aadhar-based e-KYC procedure, the SIM will be activated within five minutes. Users can also avail the home delivery service, which the company is rolling out to 100 cities across India.
