Samsung and Google Unwraps Galaxy Nexus Running Android Ice Cream Sandwich

|October 19 2011 |Samsung, Industry News, Google

Samsung and Google announced the much hyped flagship device Galaxy Nexus at the event planned in Hong Kong. Though the launch is anticipated, the device facts really impressed the audience. The device comes packed with 4.65-inch screen and running Android OS v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is really the driving factor.

Samsung applied a HD Super AMOLED display for the wow-factor, with a huge 1280 x 720 resolution. For a vivid, brilliant colors this was tuned for 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 16:9 aspect. The device armed with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash on the rear side and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera. The rear camera is tuned to record HD videos at 1080p and capture images in a newfangled panorama mode. The camera will be certainly a disappointment where 8-megapixels has become the start point with the recently launched high-end smartphones. This is an exceptional choice for Samsung and couldn't have experimented if Google has no involvement. Both of them were confident that Nexus can compete just with Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Well, the camera comes with tap-to-focus/exposure lock options, face detection and the camera comes with Google's zero shutter lag technology which is amazing.

Galaxy Nexus comes with connectivity options like Bluetooth v3.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n and an embedded NFC module. The device can switch on to HSPA+ or LTE data speeds depending upon the network and region. Galaxy Nexus is powered with 1GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of internal storage space on board and comes with a 1750mAh battery. Google added its portfolio of products Android Market, Gmail™, Google Maps™ 5.0 with 3D maps and turn-by-turn navigation, Google Earth™, Movie Studio, YouTube™, syncing with Google Calendar™, and a redesigned Google? app.

"Samsung and Google have closely collaborated to push the mobile experience forward. We are pleased to deliver the best Android smartphone experience for customers with GALAXY Nexus. We will continue to move forward with Android to provide the compelling consumer experience in mobile world," said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung's Mobile Communications Business.

"Ice Cream Sandwich demonstrates the Android platform's continued innovation with one release that works on phones and tablets and everything in between. Features like Android Beam and Face Unlock show the innovative work our team is doing, and GALAXY Nexus showcases the power behind Ice Cream Sandwich," said Andy Rubin, Senior Vice President of Mobile for Google.

Galaxy Nexus will be made available the U.S., Europe, and Asia beginning in November and gradually rolled out to other global markets.
