NVidia Tegra2 has been in news recently for their soon-to-market dual-core processors. Few handset manufacturers are already showcasing their tablets powered by Tegra2. Even an Indian tablet Adam which is powered by Tegra2 is all set to reach consumer hands by Mid January! NVidia is playing the first mover game aggressively and is ready to make the most of the opportunity..!
Looks like NVidia has picked up a surprise customer to the list of impressive client base! Yes it is SAMSUNG. You may wonder what's special about Samsung as a client. Well, for starters, Samsung has its own semiconductor division which manufacturers Chipsets such as hummigbird that is powering Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab and the most recently launched Google Nexus S. Samsung also announced about the upcoming ORION dual-core processor with amazing set of improvements and performance capabilities. So, given this level of impressive backward integration, now you might see Samsung adopting NVidia Tegra2 as surprising!
Samsung apparently has met with a roadblock in mass producing ORION chipsets. Though they have successfully demoed the processor, the mass production has not begun and they are still sampling the chipsets. According to an analyst, ORION may not hit the market until Q2 2011. LG is almost ready with OPTIMUS PAD and Motorola will be ready with MOTOPAD by Q1 2011. Samsung does not want to left behind in the race for dual-core tablets!
Samsung has this unique thirst to beat the competition. They excel when it comes into commoditizing the product due to their access to hardware and components. Until ORION is ready for market, Samsung wants to tap onto the existing alternatives to keep its hold on the market! What do you think?
