Sony Ericsson released its much-talked about Playstation certified Android Smartphone XPERIA PLAY today in United Kingdom. The Phone will be available for purchase through retailers such as Phone4U & Carphonewarehouse. Also, the phone will be available through the Mobile operator Orange. Limited stock is available and this restriction has forced Sony Ericsson to release this product through limited channel partners. Pretty soon, the product availability situation would ease out.
XPERIA PLAY runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform and is powered by 1GHz Scorpion chipset and Adreno 250 GPU. The highlight of the phone is the slide-out D-pad much akin to the ones found in Playstation controllers. To make use of the Playstation gaming features in a better way, Sony ericsson has released a software layer called Playstation Suite through which the existing Playstation titles can be converted to this playstation phone by the developers. The playstation onlinestore can also be accessed through XPERIA PLAY. Sony has released around 60 games for XPERIA PLAY including some 3D Games.
Sony has partnered with 20 game developers to bring the games to XPERIA PLAY handset. Some of the popular games released this time are Assasin’s Creed, Need for Speed, Backstab, Asphalt 6, Guns ‘n’ Glory, Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, FIFA 10, Star Battalion, The Sims 3 and Crash Bandicoot .

XPERIA PLAY would be available should be available 20 major markets including United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Spain, France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Switzerland, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Russia, India and Portugal within couple of weeks and in US with Verizon within the second quarter of 2011.
