Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 handsets NOT to get FROYO

|January 7 2011 |Android Phones, Mobile OS, Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson disappointed it's early adopters of Xperia X10 handsets including X10 mini and X10 mini pro by announcing that these handsets would not be getting any further android updates. Essentially Sony ericsson wont be upgrading the Xperia X10 handsets to Froyo. They will stick to Android 2.1 Eclair edition! Sony repeatedly tweeted that the Xperia X10 handsets would be getting system updates but no further android updates. One of the most commonly requested feature from all Xperia X10 users is the support for multi-touch. Sony is trying to offer a work-around for this. In fact, they have updated a blog entry in November saying that they will soon be offering pinch-zoom facility to xperia x10 handsets on the Android 2.1 platform itself. However, this should not be confused with multi-touch such as touching two different sections on the screen when you play multi-touch enabled games. This is purely a workaround.

So, xperia x10 owners have to install the advanced android versions at their own risk by rooting or through other means. Otherwise, they can purchase the much superior Xperia Arc which comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread version!

Sony Ericsson confirmed this through series of tweets through its official UK Twitter Account.

Hi, There will be further system updates for the X10 handsets however there will not be any more updates to the Android platform.

We believe the features included in the Android 2.1 phone are on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of 2.2
