The electronics giant Sony had a rather sober presence in the tablet segment with its Xperia Tablet S. However, the company plans to make it big in this segment as well and its making a reappearance with the Sony Xperia Tablet Z. Sony officially introduced the Tablet Z at MWC 2013 recently after it was launched on the Japanese market.

Sony is betting big on this 6.9 mm thin Xperia Tablet Z that makes it the thinnest tablet in the world. Sony Xperia Tablet Z is also very light weighing only 495 grams, while it boasts of being dust proof and capable of surviving 1 meter-deep waters for up to 30 minutes.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z is fitted with a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200, packed with Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2 technology, while its hardware platform is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset with 2 GB of RAM, and 16 or 32 GB of internal storage and microSD card support for memory expansion.

This Tablet has a primary camera with an 8 megapixel Exmor R sensor and full HD video recording functionality along with a front-facing 2 megapixel camera with HD video recording support for video calls.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z also comes with WiFi and NFC connectivity and has an infrared port which with the help of the TV SideView app the tablet can be used as a remote control. The tablet runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and Sony claims that an updated version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean will be available soon after the tablet hits the market.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is promoted as a premium tablet by its maker and is expected to hit the market by May 2013 with a price tag of $499 for the 16 GB model and an increased pocket pinch of $599 for its 32 GB variant.
