Sony Xperia X10 to get Android 2.3 Gingerbread soon

|March 28 2011 |Android Phones, Sony Ericsson

In January, Sony Ericsson broke the hearts of millions of its customers who own XPERIA X10 handsets by announcing that there wont be any further android updates available for XPERIA X10 handsets. However, Sony has come with a surprisingly good news to the same customer base.

Sony Ericsson has changed its mind and will be bringing Android 2.3 Gingerbread to XPERIA X10 handsets. This update however would be available to only generic handsets (that is, an handset purchased through retail channels and not customized by operator). The Gingerbread update is planned to start by the end of Q2 or beginning of Q3 this year (2011). Sony Ericsson clarified on some more points. Please note that the Gingerbread update is available only to XPERIA X10 and the update will not be available for Xperia X10 Mini, X10 mini pro and Xperia X8 handsets. The aim here is to provide the functionality of Gingerbread platform that is not limited by hardware. Point in case is HDMI support. If the handset does not have HDMI capabilities, there is no point blaming XPERIA X10! If you demand that, then you need to buy one of those latest smartphones such as Xperia ARC or Xperia NEO.

The update needs to be downloaded through PC Client and the update would not be available over the air.
