We bring to you a few pointers that will come handy when you are trying to play around with your camera to generate some profound and artistic pictures, along with harnessing your tact in using camera tricks. With these tips you can start make your subject look like its levitating. Sounds complicated? Sounds like stuff the professionals can pull off? Well, decide for yourself.
For starters here are some things you will need. You will require a Tripod, of course a camera, off camera flash (this is optional), a chair (to aid in creating the illusion) and a subject be the center of your picture. Now let us get started. The first most important step is to get everything in position. Set up your camera on the tripod, and have the flash lights in position. Don’t frown if you don’t have these. Run a few test shots to see how well the lighting is.
Next up, is taking the first photograph without the chair being in the frame. Maintain the camera settings that you use in this shot since we want to keep them for the next shot. For this reason, it is very important to use a tripod, so as not to keep the angle and settings unaltered. The next step is add the chair within the frame. This is the part where the subject sits on the chair in a position that makes it look like the subject is falling off the chair or is levitating. If you are going for the levitating feel, then get the subject to act composed, like David Blaine does. After doing a few shots, and you have found the best one in each scene a certain amount of post processing has to be carried out to make sure both pictures have the exact light settings.
Next drag the second picture over the first picture and then select the Pen Tool and Add Vector Mask tool. Now click on the Add Vector Mask icon in the layers panel and with the Pen tool, start highlighting every portion of the chair that you intend to remove. You may have to use the Clone tool in some parts to modify the shadows. The best trick is to adjust the Clone tool opacity to 30% to soften the shadows thereby removing the hard lines. Do not be in a hurry for dwelling on these a little will give you the desired results.
