With this weekly feature, we bring to you selected ones which deserve your attention. This week we have several app updates with useful functionalities along with addictive games lined up.

Finding a lost smartphone/ tablet is always a big problem, and even bigger problem is risking confidential data saved in it. Few months ago, Google had launched a web service called Android Device Manager to deal with this issue and now it’s available as an Android app. The app allows user to locate their misplaced Android device and make it ring or even lock it remotely. If nothing else works, then users can erase the data in the device.

The application works on Android version 2.3 and above.

CarWale

With so many new launches in the competitive car market, one can always get confused which one to buy. CarWale, with its updated app, aims to help people by providing at-a-glance access to news, new/ upcoming launches, prices and specifications of cars, and more. The app also offers option to buy old cars shown in a user-friendly format. To help prospective buyers in making the decision for buying a car, it offers expert video reviews as well as user reviews.

With the latest update, Google has added several useful features to its Gmail app. The first one is vacation auto responder allowing users to reply to the emails automatically, just in time for the upcoming holiday season. Another new functionality is the ability to attach any kind of files (documents, pdf, zip, etc.) which were earlier limited to pictures and video only. It has also added the option to print emails directly, though this is limited to Android 4.4 KitKat devices only since it supports native printing.

Instagram

Instagram, one of the most popular photo sharing social networks, thanks to its 150 million users has added a useful functionality. The application, now allows the user to share their pictures and videos privately, instead of sharing them publicly. Dubbed as Instagram Direct, the feature gives the user an option to share pictures and videos with up to 15 friends at a time. The people with whom the picture or video message has been shared can also comment on it.

TruecallerTruecaller (Free)


In a one-of-a-kind partnership, Truecaller has joined hands with Twitter  to display the twitter handles of the person associated with a number. Users can also follow them and tweet to them directly from the app itself. With this update, the Truecaller app has also undergone a redesign with large pictures and badges. These badges indicate different types of users with Verified, Premium and Ambassador badge.

ViberViber (Free)


Viber has been adding functionalities to its app to take on not just rival messaging apps, but also popular VOIP services like Skype. With version 4.1, it has included a new feature termed Viber Out, allowing users to make calls to mobile and landline phones anywhere in the world. The credits for the calls can be purchased via in-app billing and it works out significantly cheaper that Skype’s Skype Out feature.

This feature will also work on Viber’s desktop software and it will also sync the user’s phonebook from their smartphone, so that they don’t have to enter the phone number of the person they want to call.

Angry Birds has become one of the most popular series of games which is liked by people of all ages. But with Angry Birds Go!, the game marks a huge shift from the usual slingshots to go-kart racing. Sonic The Hedgehog 2Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Rs 182.38)


Sega has remastered its Sonic the Hedgehog 2 game with new levels and even a new zone called Hidden Palace. The new zone brings undiscovered enemies, more hazards and a confrontation against Dr. Eggman. With the new mode ‘Boss Attack’, players will be given a chance to defeat all the bosses of the game in one go. Similar to other Sonic games, players can choose to play the character of Sonic, Tails or Knuckles.
