|November 29 2014 |Android Phones, Android, Mobile Apps, applications, Android Tablets, Apps of the Week

This week, we have some really interesting apps lined up for you, ranging from efficient task managers to great entertainment options. For gamers, we have a variety of addictive titles including the likes of Monument Valley and a mobile-friendly version of the Call of Duty franchise. So, read on for this week’s must have apps and games.

EvernoteEvernote {Update} (Free)

With the lines between digital and analogue worlds blurring, many of our tasks have become easier. Contact info in business cards, for example, doesn’t need to be added manually to your smartphone, since all you need to do is to scan the card with your phone’s camera. Evernote, the popular note-taking app has also added this functionality in version 6.2, creating a contact note for the respective contact. While the feature is available only for premium users, free accounts can also make use of this option for the next one year if they link their LinkedIn account to the app.

HolaaHolaa! (Free)

Popular Indian messaging and calling service Nimbuzz is now taking on Truecaller with its latest app, dubbed as Holaa!. The app not only aims to be your called ID app, but also lets you block spam calls. With its Smart Search feature, the app automatically identifies the name of the caller, along with their photo, location and email ID. The app also connects with Facebook and Google+ to enrich your phonebook with the contact’s latest photos. Compared to Truecaller, the app can work offline and also promises that your phonebook will never be uploaded or made public.

TuneIn RadioTuneIn Radio {Update} (Free)

One of our favourite radio-streaming apps, TuneIn Radio has received a fresh coat of Google’s latest design language. Apart from a visual refresh, the app has also been updated with several other useful features. It now gets rewind and fast-forward buttons for playback, along with the ability to resume listening of podcasts or other on-demand content right from where you left off. The app has also updated its Car Mode UI.

Call of Duty - HeroesCall of Duty: Heroes (Free)

If you’re a fan of Call of Duty, check out its latest iteration that can be played on your smartphone. This game falls into the tower defence genre, where you have to save your base, while killing enemies at the same time. You will be in command of an army of heroes and elite soldiers, and you'll also be able to add ‘Heroes’ like Price and Soap from previous games of the franchise. To take on the opponents, you can also unleash Killstreaks.

Monument ValleyMonument Valley {Update} (Rs 245)

Monument Valley is one of the most beautiful mobile puzzle games, and now the developers have added an expansion pack with more levels. Called 'Forgotten Shores', the new chapter offers eight additional levels of mesmerising visuals, which you have to traverse through while solving optical illusions. For those who are unaware, in the game, you will be playing as Princess Ida, guiding her through the world of mysterious architecture, and avoiding obstacles along the way.

NinJump DashNinJump Dash (Free)

The successor to the hit NinJump game, NinJump Dash adds a lot of fun to the gameplay by making it a real-time game against opponents. You’ll be racing against three people, who can be your Facebook friends or random opponents. Your ultimate aim is to win the race, while overcoming obstacles. You can also knock out your competitors by using powers such as shooting rockets, dropping punch boxes and more. You can also dress your character the way your want.

Tainted KeepTainted Keep (Rs 123.05)

A powerful wizard Morg has drained the souls of the people living in village of Greenhaven, but one person has remained unaffected. Your job is to help the girl named Xobia battle against the evil sorceror and defeat his fearsome creatures to reach to the keep, which is the source of his power. You can make use of different weapons to challenge the enemies. Your stamina and weapon skills will increase proportionally to the number of trapped souls you release. The game has a strong storyline and visually-appealing graphics to keep you hooked.

Also check out the new language-learning app Duolingo which has been updated with the Material Design language. We also hope that you have made use of the Amazon Appstore’s fantastic offer, where you can download a range of paid Android apps and games for free for a limited time.
