Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) confirms that, over 64.23 Lakh subscribers opted for service provider change under MNP (Mobile Number Portability). TRAI introduced the MNP scheme in the month of January 2011 after missing many dates. Within a month the number of requests reached 38.33 lakh in Feb 2011. It further mounted to 64.23 lakh at the end of March,2011. Which clearly says that 25.9 lakh customers submitted requests within a month.
The above table highlights that the highest number of switch-overs encountered in Gujarat circle with 6.17 lakh mobile subscribers followed by Rajasthan counting 5.49 lakh in Zone-I. In Zone-II Karnataka stands top with 5.29 lakh customers followed by Tamilnadu with 4.74 lakh customers. While comparing Zone-I with Zone-II, a large volume of requests arise from Zone-I which includes cities from North and West India. The least number of 1894 customer requests triggered from Jammu & Kashmir where it has 50.96 lakh GSM subscribers volume.
