Twitter app for Android and iOS receives update

|February 7 2013 |applications

Google Android and Apple iOS receive new Twitter updates that improves the search and discovery functions. Twitter users on Android and Apple devices can expect a host of goodies.

With this update, users can preview article summaries and photos in the Search and Discover tab without accessing the stories. Another huge upgrade in the interface is that Twitter users can now seen links with photos on Discover rather than a mere story preview.

Twitter’s Manager for Engineering & Search Relevane, Daniel Loreto said that, "We want Discover to be the place where you find the best of that content relevant to you, even if you don't necessarily know everyone involved. For this new release, we've completely redone the backend and user interface to take advantage of Twitter cards."  The Twitter Cards shows linked photos, videos, and article previews within the tweets. Users can access these links by tapping on the View All Tweets tab in the Discover section.

The Twitter cads are more useful for the company’s backend who use the feedback to improve user’s experience on the native apps. Loreto said that, "You'll see content from cards partners display as previews in the stream, so that you'll get headlines and publication names for story summaries and photo previews rather than shortened URLs." Through this update, Twitter hopes to improve user browsing experience with fewer mouse clicks of touchscreen taps and faster content viewing.

Search update means, henceforth, photo and video results will be on top besides tailored ranking and tweet highlights by users who favourited or retweeted a particular post.
