Uninor Surges Ahead With Most New Subscriber Additions

|October 18 2010 |Industry News, Mobile Operators

Telecom Operator Uninor has added 2.17 million new subscribers in September 2010. In the 13 circles where the provider offers GSM services, it has emerged as the largest player in terms of new subscriber additions. Nation wide it ranks at number 2, and the only operator adding more than 2 million subscribers for two consecutive months. Its total subscriber base is now at 11.2 million users.

“Our Dynamic Pricing plan, that offers up to 60% on calls, is attracting customers to try our service and increasingly use us as their primary SIM. Clearer communication of this product’s benefits together with a stronger distribution have helped us cross the 2 million subscriber mark again this month,” said the company’s nominated Managing Director, Sigve Brekke.

“As stated earlier, our long-term ambition is to establish ourselves among the top 6 operators in each of our circles. There is some distance to go till we reach that goal, but we are encouraged by the customer response and are making good progress towards it,” he added.

As per the Cellular Operators Association of India, GSM mobile subscribers have grown by 2.58% to 12.4 million in September. The total GSM subscribers in the country are now 494 million. Airtel dominates the market with a 29% market share, followed by Vodafone at 23.39% and Idea with 15.02%.
