The updated versions of Hangouts service as well as keyboard for Android users are now officially rolled out. New version of the Google Hangouts as well as the Android 4.4 KitKat keyboard is now available to update and download from the Google Play Store.

Hangouts messaging is now updated with SMS/MMS integration and it can be updated to any Android device using OS version 2.3 and up. However, the new Android keyboard update is limited to devices running Android 4.0 and later.

Talking about the changes in Google Hangouts, as already announced by the company, the latest version comes with the SMS/MMS integration, animated GIFs, sharing of location and more. Users can import their existing messages and can quickly switch between SMS and Hangouts service. Group MMS conversation support is also added to the app.

While, the new Google keyboard comes with better layout and space-aware gesture typing. Google has also added Emojis to the keyboard, but they will only work in the Android KitKat 4.4 powered devices. Users now don’t have to lift their fingers while using gesture typing – they can just go through the space bar.

That’s not all, Google has also updated the Hangouts for iOS devices too. The newer version listed at the App Store is 1.3.1 and it comes with new features like - Device, in-call, and mood status: share what device you’re on, whether you’re in a call, or your current mood. However, SMS/MMS integration, animated GIFs and location sharing didn’t make it to the iOS counterpart of the Hangouts service.
